Greek islands

The South Dodecanese Island Voyage

Spend a week aboard our gorgeous gulet and explore the coves and islands between Kos and Rhodes. This island hopping itinerary includes:

1 night’s hotel in Rhodes or Kos, depending where the Voyage begins.

  • Free time in Kos to explore the gorgeous old town, Hippocrates tree and healing temple, sandy beaches, hot springs, and smart tavernas.

  • Free time in Rhodes to explore the well-preserved medieval town, gorgeous beaches, amazing boutiques, and renown archeological museum.

  • Elegant and whimsical Symi Island, which is always a guest favorite with its boutiques, windmills, Panormitis monastery and adorable harbor.

  • Adorable Tilos with its peaceful harbor.

  • Nisyros with its young volcano and picturesque villages.

  • A shopping excursion in Marmaris or Bodrum (Turkey) where you can enjoy a traditional hamam experience and some delicious Turkish cuisine,

This was our very first Greek Island Voyage, and we love it! The combination of Symi, Tilos and Nisyros is unparalleled. And, the ability for our guests to visit Rhodes is a treat!

Rhodes has an amazingly preserved medieval city that’s hiding a modern town.

My favorite, and everyone who’s ever been there’s favorite, is Symi. What a gem of an island. The harbor is like an amphitheater, with buildings rising up the walls of the mountains. There are iconic windmills, adorable boutiques, great hikes and generally an unmatched vibe.

Completely different than Symi is Tilos. We call it Cat Island because of all the friendly cats. The water here is crystal clear, its mesmerizing to watch the waves whisking up over the colorful pebbles. I have dreams of renting a place here for a few months and writing a novel!

And, rounding up the mix is Nisyros. There is a “young volcano” as the centerpiece of this island, and the centerpiece of our visit here. It smells like a geyser, that unmistakable smell of sulfur. And it feels a bit like we’re visiting the moon!

The North Dodecanese Island Voyage

Spend a week aboard our gorgeous gulet and explores the coves and islands around Kos. This island hopping itinerary includes:

  • 1 night’s hotel in Kos, with free time to explore the gorgeous old town, Hippocrates tree and healing temple, sandy beaches, hot springs, and smart tavernas.

  • Kalymnos, with its challenging Italian Road hike and breathtaking Vathi harbor.

  • Unspoiled Lipsi with its natural wine vineyard, and hidden sea-side taverna.

  • Spiritual Patmos with the Cave of the Apocalypse and monastery dedicated to Saint John.

  • Lush Leros with its impressive castle.

  • A shopping excursion in Bodrum (Turkey) where you can enjoy a traditional hamam experience and some delicious Turkish cuisine.

Kos is our hub, and this Voyage makes the most of its and its surrounding isles. There are four iconic days as part of this route.

Icon 1: The Italian Road hike is no joke! The reward of a beer and calamari party is well earned. Even the guests who opt to boat to Vathi instead of hike can participate. Oh, and Vathi, gorgeous Vathi! It’s like a Norwegian fjord. The “ooo”s and “ahhh”s fun to listen to as guests see it for the first time!

Icon 2: The long climb up Patmos to two pilgrimage sites is spectacular. It is challenging, but gorgeous, lined with eucalyptus trees and full of panoramic views of the harbor below, and windmills and monastery above. The monastery is one of my favorite places to sit and enjoy the breeze. And, the shopping nearby is unparalleled.

Icon 3: The sunset hike up to the castle on Leros is many guests’ absolute favorite—not just from their time with us, but EVER. To sit in the shadow of castle from the crusades and watch the sun set over the harbor is spectacular!

Icon 4: Little lush Lipsi is such a gem. Completely different than the others, our time here is spent relaxing in a natural farm and a seaside taverna.

The North Agean Island Voyage

  • Hike between Cleopatra’s Bath and Agalimani Bay, including a visit to a nomad family

We started the SunFunYou with the Blue Voyage, and it is still my favorite.

Each hike on the Voyage is breathtaking and different! One of the beautiful things about hiking is that virtually any fitness level can do it. It just means altering your pace, drinking lots of water, and taking breaks as needed. I’ve been hiking at my most fit and least fit, and in both scenarios I feel accomplished after a five mile hike! And, with the Blue Voyage, the scenery is so beautiful everything seems effortless!

One of the best days in the Blue Voyage is when we go to Dalyan. How do you top a 3.5 hour hike, a water taxi and a crab and beer party? With a mud bath!! Gotta get dirty to get clean. I love the mud, with herbs, without herbs, hot & cool. It's a gooey treat after a morning hiking and sweating through forests and a dusty ancient city! It totally reminds me of being in safari in South Africa and watching the elephants and hippos take mud baths. A couple differences of course. These aren't elephants and hippos, they're our gorgeous, adventurous, open minded, ready to try anything guests.

Another great day in the Blue Voyage is the hike through a dense forrest from a nomad's house for fresh bread, homemade honey and lavender tea to a cove for swimming in Cleopatra's Bath.

I can still hear the wind whistling through the Greek ruins of the Kayakoy Ghost Town  town in Turkey. Every time we visit we have the place virtually to ourselves as we scamper around the abandoned houses, climb up to the lookout tower, walk over to the amazing view of butterfly valley and the sea below. And, knowing that a feast of savory crepes and Turkish coffee is waiting below is the icing on top of this perfect morning! Sunday brunch under an apricot tree anyone? After hiking through a deserted Greek village in Turkey, savory and sweet crepes sure hit the spot!
