Every summer, my soul syncs to a different rhythm—the slow roll of waves, the clink of backgammon dice, the scent of wild sage. But this summer, I’m not on a Sun Fun You voyage. And while my inbox may be full, my heart has a little empty space shaped like a Turkish gulet.

Here are the ten things I miss the most:

1. Dancing on the Deck
There’s something about dancing barefoot on teak, under the sun or stars, that makes you forget anything exists beyond the sea. The music, the breeze, the laughter—it’s joy, distilled.

2. Beer on the Mermaid Mat
A cold beer, the Aegean lapping at your sides, and the absurd perfection of lounging on a floating mat tied to the yacht. It’s where deep conversations and belly laughs happen in equal measure.

3. Back Diving Off the Boat
That moment of hesitation before the dive, the splash, and the triumphant bob to the surface—it never gets old. It’s a little leap of freedom every time.

4. Smelling Wild Sage on the Hike
Our hikes are always breathtaking—literally and figuratively—but there’s something transportive about the scent of sun-warmed sage wafting up from the hillside. It’s nature’s own aromatherapy.

5. Ali’s Earnestness (in Shiny Gold Pants) During Pirate Bingo
Every voyage has its magic, and Ali in gold pants calling out bingo numbers with heartfelt sincerity is a highlight I never knew I needed—until I had it.

6. Sleeping Al Fresco
There’s no lullaby like the sea breeze. Falling asleep under the stars on the deck, wrapped in a blanket of constellations, is a simple, profound pleasure.

7. Working Out at Sunset
It’s not your typical gym setting. Think lunges on a hilltop, planks on the bow, sun dripping into the sea as your heart pounds in gratitude and exertion.

8. Making New Friends
There’s something about being off-grid and off-guard that creates fast, deep friendships. You arrive as strangers and leave as chosen family.

9. The Sound of the Backgammon Dice
That click-clack against the board, the soft groan of a loss, the triumphant shout of a double six—it’s the soundtrack of lazy afternoons and spirited competition.

10. The Food
Oh, the food. Fresh, flavorful, and prepared with so much love. Whether it’s grilled fish caught that morning or a spread of mezes that rivals any five-star restaurant, every meal is a celebration.

Not being on a Voyage this summer has made me appreciate these moments even more. But that’s the thing about Sun Fun You—once it’s in your system, it stays with you, wherever you are. Still, I can’t wait for the next one.
